The Sporting Donovans

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

Anyone brought up in Llanharan/Brynna area from the 1950's on, would be aware of the sporting prowess of the Donovan family. With father Brian and brothers Steve, Colin and Richard all playing for the club and Colin and Richard gaining International honours. Brian's brother Denis (Dick ) Donovan and his son also played for Llanharan, with Anthony gaining a Welsh Youth cap and playing for Cardiff and Neath. However it's not just the male side of the family who have attained sporting honours. Dick's daughter Dawn played international Netball for Wales on a number of occasions. Now it's the turn of Dawn's son Elliot to be in the sporting limelight, after representing Great Britain in rowing. Ex Club Captain Steve Butler sums up how well Elliot did and what potential he has. "They also came away with two silver medals, one yesterday and missing a gold today by .20 of a second.

Elliot has so much potential and is one to watch for an Olympic honours in the future". Well done Elliot and congratulations from all at Llanharan RFC, we will follow your progress with great interest over the coming years.

Elliot is the tallest of the four rowers.
