Joe Jenkins

A few months ago i posted the article below on our Social Media Sites, about a young player named Joe Jenkins, whose family came from Llanharan. Joe's father Gareth, has cleared up the query as to what connection his family had with Llanharan in a message sent via our Website:

An article in Wales Online today talks about 2 Welsh qualified players opting to play for England's U20 Team. One of them is Joe Jenkins, whose father hails from Llanharan. Does anyone have any idea who his father might be?

"Bristol Bears centre Jenkins may not be a name familiar to Welsh rugby fans but the 19-year-old is widely considered to be one of the brightest prospects in the English game.

Having been born in Halifax, Jenkins qualifies for Wales through his father's side of the family who originally hail from Llanharan. The Monmouth School product played for Newport Schools, and trialled for the Dragons U16s side but didn't make the cut at the region."

"Gareth Jenkins commented on the post Joe Jenkins?

Joe's dad is Gareth Jenkins (me!) but its my father who was born in Llanharan - his name was John Jenkins - who was born in 1935 but sadly died in 1976. I dont believe he ever played rugby at Llanharan RFC as he left the village when he was quite young - hopefully this helps?"
