Llanharan Youth 17 St. Albans Youth 12

What a great start to the season. With the weather having Noah on stand by, we managed to get a game on against a big, strong and physical team from St Albans. Conditions dictated that there was not going to be a great deal of running rugby but Llan's backline effectively managed to get the hands through the ball on a number of occasions. There was no score for the majority of the first half with both teams defending well with Llanharan's back row putting in a huge shift. Unfortunately, the Buns youth managed to score first through their forwards but there was no panic from the young Dairymen who took the game back at the opposition and just before half time, there was an altercation that resulted in what would be described as a 'melee. Thankfully, it was mostly windmills and angry faces and we called that a half Second half, Llan played the conditions better and every time The Buns kicked, it seemed to be down full back Ben Wyn Williams throat who didn't put a foot wrong all game. After some sensible kicking with some great chasing from the rest of the team, winger Lloyd Roberts popped up in the pod to gallop his way over the line which was converted by Evan Halse. The game continued like a tense game of chess but a lack of concentration around the ruck allowed the Buns scrum half to break through and go over under the sticks. With some 10 minutes left of the game, our superior fitness was becoming apparent thanks to a gruelling preseason by S&C coach Tom Perkins. Again, some fantastic positional kicking in particular by centre Evan Halse aka Jan Molby, we found ourselves in the opposition 22 and with some quick thinking and even quicker feet scrum half Tom Owen who slid in under the posts. Converted again by Evan Halse putting Llan in the lead by 14-12. With a tense finalé to the game, the boys kept their cool and defended well and with a minute left in the game the boys were awarded a penalty, which was slotted over again by Evan Halse with the clock having turned red. So well done lads...onwards to the start of the season.
