Match Report

Usk 3 Llanharan 43

Here is Gareth's latest match report:

Match Report – Usk RFC V Llanharan WRU Division 3 Cup 17th September 5, 2022

With the autumn sun resplendent in the quaint Gwent farming Village of Usk, Llanharan began the defence of the 3rd division National Cup in commanding fashion. The game was all but over by half time.

Once again the dairy men gave debuts to some of their summer signings, who have all added greatly to the strength of the squad.

After weathering an early storm by Usk, Llanharan then took complete control. With the score at 3 – 0 to the home side, there followed a procession to the Usk try line. This assault was started by Mastermind finalist and Bamber Gascoigne look a like – Jack Pring, who showed great pace to finish a flowing move, and give the dairy men the lead.

The second score came soon after when Jack Walker, celebrating his first start was rewarded for his hard work and unrelenting support by taking the last pass, to cross, to make the score10 – 3

Jack Walker put the icing on the cake for his own performance scoring a second try from a lineout drive, where he broke off and powered himself over from 3 inches. His all-round game was very dynamic and his throwing was very good, however, he the let himself down, very badly by announcing to everyone, he was a karaoke god. Although he has the face and body of a 16 year old Korean boy band member, his voice resembles Jimmy Nail on a 2 day bender.

After missing the first 2 conversion attempts, the captain, spray tan user and cotton bud model, slotted the 3rd one with ease. However, his actions during the second half have prompted a WRU investigation into spread betting. Mr Treacle’s cross field kick was so alarmingly bad (backwards and nowhere near the intended target), that the excuse of “I couldn’t see because my father’s new dentures were so bright” will not cut it.

The fourth try was scored following a dummy thrown so effectively by the ever improving Jack “2 dinners” Dauncy, that 3 supporters thought the ball was coming to them, ducked to avoid it and dropped their cans of special brew. At 6 feet 4inches and 22 stone, this young man could go a long way.

The final try of the 1st half was scored by Jack Thomson, who displayed “Nascar” speed to split the defensive line and leave the full back coughing and spluttering in his exhaust fumes, as he switched on the afterburners. Jack has greatly impressed since signing in the summer, but need to sort out his hair (the Roman Emperor look ended 2000 years ago)

HT Usk 3 – 31 Llanharan

After an inspirational half time team talk by Kevin “Sauvage” Jones, Llanharan took their foot off the gas with most of the last 40 minutes being played without intensity.

It was good to see Harley Thomson back in Llanharn colours and playing for the first time with his cousin Jack. Both fathers, Denver and Peter were in the crowd, and it was easy to spot them as they stood with a crate of cider and nobody within 10 metres of them, discussing the merits of a Massey Fergusson tractor as opposed to a John Deere.

The first try of the second half was scored with 10 minutes remaining, by the unstoppable Ieuan Pring, who certainly knows his way to the try line.

The final score was a delight to watch, as the ball was kept alive superbly by both backs and forwards, ending with a score for the ever dependable, and in this game absolutely outstanding Ieuan Evans. The conversion was added by Lee Arthur
