Keen followers of our Social Media pages will have noticed quite a lot of articles stemming from Llanharan RFC Youth in the last few weeks. The man behind these articles is Youth Head Coach Steve Roberts. But who exactly is Steve Roberts?
"Steve Roberts started his rugby journey playing No.8 for his home town of Llanelli, through the youth team, under 21s and senior team then moved to play semi-pro for Ystradgynlais Following an ACL repair to his knee, he had a couple of years off. Once back fit, played with Clifton RFC in the second tier of the National Leagues whilst in uni, where he had a taste of coaching, helping with the set piece with the second and women's team. He was fortunate to get in the Welsh squad at both Youth and U21s level.
He started his coaching career helping out with his son's team at the club and then with local rivals Pontyclun from U10s to U16s before returning to Llanharan last season to coach the youth. He was also assistant coach to Pontyclun Falcons last season, who won their first ever league and cup double. He's a Level 3 coach and away from rugby, he is a Chartered Surveyor and runs his own consultancy business and works part time with the NHS (as a surveyor not moonlighting as a doctor)."
