Dai Jenkins

All at Llanharan RFC are saddened by the passing of club stalwart David "Dai" Jenkins. Here is a tribute from someone who knew Dai for many years, Hugh Smith :

"The sad news of Dai Jenkin’s death has meant the club has lost one of its most vibrant and influential characters. Dai became involved first of all about half a century ago when wife Val became stewardess. That background expertise enabled him to take over the club as holiday relief many times. Over the years he has served in many roles - Vice Chairman, Social Sec, kit manager as well as being a Life Member. The snack bar he ran at the entrance of the club, almost from the start of our time at the Dairyfield, was a place for a hot drink on a cold afternoon and also a good chuckle with Dai. It also meant a long-term sponsorship of the junior section. He was a giant presence in the bar where his wit and inoffensive mickey taking made him so popular. It is also worth acknowledging his long service to the Royal British Legion, the proud standard bearer at all ceremonies. My own personal humorous recollection, of which there are many, centred on my reluctance to have the last drink on away trips fearing the worst for my bladder on a long return journey. I would always ask for a half – and Dai would always return with TWO halves! He was above all a good guy, with a very caring and supportive nature underpinning his many other qualities."

I would like to add my own appreciation of Dai. When Junior Rugby was started at the club in the late 70's, Dai was a great help to me and others and he carried on helping the youngsters at the club by running the Young Dairymen's snack bar.

Our thoughts go out Dai's family and friends at this difficult time.
