SWALEC ONE EAST
Apr 20 2010
LLANHARAN 51 MERTHYR 16
Lee Thorne grabbed three tries for us as we routed Merthyr in the evening sunshine at the Dairyfield.
It was also a good night for the consistent Codey Rees, an import from Caerphilly, clocking up another sixteen points to take his tally to 215 in league and cup.
In a game twice postponed because of the weather it was ironic to see the occasional puff of dust generated by the playing activity.
The win moved Llan clear of Bargoed in second spot in the One East table, a total of seven tries ensuring a tenth bonus point of the campaign, whilst defeat for a plucky but outclassed Merthyr team left them still needing points to ensure their first division status.
There were four yellow cards – Daniel Snape for them and Ed Rees, Neil Lewis and James Greenfield for us.
Recently capped Wales Under 18 full back Harley Thomson made his Dairyfield senior debut as a replacement at half time and distinguished himself with some clever runs, while young hooker Aaron Griffin justified the coach’s faith with a solid performance in just his second start of the year.
